Wellness, alcopops, novel food, health claims - all terms clearly illustrate that the whole field of food law has been in constant movement for many years. From farmer through processor to trader, food industry and food advertising are constantly facing new challenges. Application of the law is not made any easier by the splitting up of legal regulations governing this field. Almost always complicated horizontal regulations - such as the new German foodstuffs and animal food act - and product-related vertical regulations mesh in a complex way.
At the same time national regulations are increasingly being replaced or supplanted by European regulations or directives adopted by the European Union within the framework of its policies on food safety and food quality. Food law pervades the complete field of activity of food companies, from product-related requirements through organisation of business processes to labelling of end products and their advertising. Contraventions can lead to disputes with the supervisory authorities, while consumer associations and competitors can invoke restraining orders.
We support our clients from the food industry (traders, producers, advertising agencies) both in an advisory capacity to avoid conflicts and in disputes on their way through the labyrinth of food standards and laws to economic success.
